The gastric bypass diet sometimes referred to as a bariatric diet, is what an individual will follow after they have had weight loss surgery. It is recommended that you take a chewable or liquid bariatric vitamin to give your body what it cannot get from the small number of calories you are consuming.

The first part of this diet will last a few days. Clear liquids are all you will be allowed. Your goal will be to take in 64 ounces over the course of a day. During the fourth stage which can begin as early as eight weeks and can be put off until twelve weeks, you will begin reintroducing other foods back into your diet. Chew everything well. You should eat about 60 grams of protein each day and drink at least 32 ounces of liquid. Foods that are a course in texture, such as; meats, may need cut into small pieces and soften with liquid before being eaten. Foods high in fat and sugar should be avoided. These can cause flu-like symptoms and cause dumping syndrome.

The diet after gastric bypass, especially in the early stages, will force you to make healthy choices unless you want to experience discomfort. Protein and vegetables are going to be work best for you. It is important to take whatever medications your bariatric professional prescribes. It is also important to begin an exercise program as soon as you are allowed. This will keep you healthy and your energy level high.
